EUROHPC USER DAYS 2026
The fourth edition of the EuroHPC User Days will take place in Dublin (Ireland) on 22-24 September 2026.
The event is organised by the EuroHPC Joint Undertaking, together with the Irish Centre for High-End Computing (ICHEC) and the Department of Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science of Ireland, under Ireland’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
The EuroHPC User Days will provide supercomputing users in Europe with the chance to explore various topics and enhance their understanding of the opportunities provided by the EuroHPC Joint Undertaking and the support available to users.
The event will showcase EuroHPC projects that have used European HPC, Quantum Computing and AI supercomputing resources to present best practices in the development of these projects, gather feedback from EuroHPC users and engage with potential new users.
CSC Summer School in High-Performance Computing 2026
Students and researchers in different disciplines of scientific computing from all over the world to join CSC’s summer school in High-Performance Computing 2026 on 23.6. – 2.7. in Espoo, Finland.
The school consist of lectures and hands-on training on parallel programming, code performance, and other necessary skills for the development of scientific software for supercomputers and is aimed for graduate students working in various fields of science, e.g., chemistry, physics, life sciences, engineering, or economics as well as industrial R&D professionals.
Earlybird ends 13th of March and final registration is for 1st of May 2026.

Webinars to introduce the EuroHPC Federation Platform
University of Tartu HPC centre is the member of a consortium developing the EuroHPC Federation Platform (EFP) that will federate all AI factory supercomputers, HPC systems, and quantum systems across Europe.
In conjunction with the initial release of the EFP planned for March 2026, there will be a series of introductory webinars with short presentations, hands-on demos and time for Q&A.
The first webinar “Introducing the EuroHPC Federation Platform” will take place already on 4 Feb 2026 14:00-15:00 EET.
The various components of the platform will be briefly covered, which are:
- MyEFP web interface – central entry point to EuroHPC systems
- EFP AAI – the Authentication & Authorisation Infrastructure component (based on MyAccessID)
- EFP Allocations – federated resource allocation, monitoring, and management (based on Waldur)
- EFP Federated Software Stack (based on EESSI);
EFP Interactive – interactive web-based access (based on Open OnDemand) - EFP Workflows – federated management of workflows (based on LEXIS)

Quantum Autumn School 2025
The Quantum Autumn School 2025 (QAS2025) will be a 5-day event full with expert-led sessions. Learn to use LUMI supercomputer: Free training sessions in Tallinn in October 2025
Two high-level, free training sessions focused on using LUMI, one of Europe’s most powerful supercomputers, will be held at TalTech campus in Tallinn in October 2025.
The introductory hybrid training taking place on October 20-21 requires participants to have basic Unix knowledge and experience with HPC cluster usage. Knowledge of C, Fortran, and Python is also beneficial.

University of Tartu’s HPC Centre Ramps Up AI Power with Cutting-Edge GPUs to Secure Digital Future
In August 2025, University of Tartu’s Rocket cluster will see the arrival of two new machines, each equipped with four high-VRAM H200 NVL 141GB PCIe 5.0 x16 GPUs. These powerful units are specifically designed for training large AI models, offering an impressive combined video memory of up to 564 GB within a single machine, seamlessly interconnected via a rapid internal NVLINK connection. For even more demanding computations, a 200gbps Infiniband connection between the machines allows for calculations across multiple units, providing enhanced scalability.
“To be well prepared for the second half of 2025, we purchased these top-level GPUs at the University of Tartu HPC Centre,” confirmed Ivar Koppel, ETAIS CEO and University of Tartu HPC Centre`s Director.
Developing our own language models for secure and sensitive data processing and teaching the Estonian language are essential to remain in international competition and not lose our digital capabilities.
At the heart of language model development lies the crucial need for high-performance computing resources, specifically Graphics Processing Units (GPUs) and Video Random Access Memory (VRAM). The University of Tartu HPC Centre obtained the ISO/IEC 27001:2022 certification
The internationally recognised standard confirms that the University of Tartu High Performance Computing Center adheres to the highest data protection and security procedures. This achievement is the result of years of work by the team at the High Performance Computing Center to create an effective security system to protect computing infrastructure.
Specifically, the certification covers the provision and management of high-performance computing, servers, cloud and network services, data backup and associated support services. Such a broad scope ensures that all IT operations and services provided by the UTHPC, such as the use of the LUMI supercomputer, the local high-performance computing cluster Rocket, the sensitive data analysis platform SAPU and the management platform Waldur and related support services, are fully compliant with international security standards.
As part of the certification process, a comprehensive audit of the information security management system of the UT High Performance Computing Center was carried out, including data processing, risk assessment and implementation of security measures across all services provided. Successful certification confirms that the Center is committed to ensuring the reliability and protection of sensitive data in all areas of its activities, and that international collaborators, research partners, the public sector and private companies can trust the UT High Performance Computing Center infrastructure with their most sensitive projects and data.
ISO/IEC 27001:2022 certification involves continuous improvement of systems and regular audits. You can therefore be sure that your information security management system will remain effective against new emerging threats.
The University of Tartu High Performance Computing Center is the lead member of the Estonian Scientific Computing Infrastructure (ETAIS). ETAIS is a nationwide e-infrastructure that combines computers, data storage devices, network solutions, software and support services.

ISC High Performance 2025
The ISC High Performance 2025 will take place in Hamburg, Germany from 10-13 June 2025. ISC is the largest forum in Europe for HPC, high performance data analytics and AI/machine learning. This annual event brings together the international HPC community, providers and users from industry, public institutions and research organisations.
The ISC High Performance 2025 conference and exhibition is an annual global gathering for HPC technology providers and users. It aims to foster the growth of a thriving community that now includes practitioners of AI, data analytics, and quantum computing. The first ISC conference was held back in 1986. ISC 2025 will be held in Hamburg, Germany from June 10-13, bringing together over 3,500 international attendees to exchange ideas and knowledge under the theme ‘Connecting the Dots.’
ISC 2025 offers a deep dive into the fusion of nascent computing paradigms, with artificial intelligence leading the charge, but underpinned by powerful high performance computing infrastructure and looking ahead to the quantum era.

LUMI Intro Course
This two-day hybrid course serves as an introduction to the LUMI architecture and setup. It will include lessons about the hardware architecture, compiling, using software and running jobs efficiently. After the course you will be able to work effectively on both the CPU (LUMI-C) as well as GPU partition (LUMI-G). The course is aimed at anyone who wants to know how to perform very large computing tasks, specifically if you intend to use the LUMI supercomputer in the future.
In this training you will:
- connect to LUMI and transfer data from and to the cluster
- understand LUMI’s hardware and effectively compile software on it
- utilize the module system and EasyBuild for software management
- submit and manage jobs with Slurm, including the use of job arrays and GPU/CPU binding
- identify and mitigate I/O bottlenecks in the LUSTRE file system
- create Python environments and run containers on LUMI

GPU Programming with HIP
This course gives basic to intermediate level knowledge on HIP programming. It starts with a basic introduction to writing GPU applications using HIP and their corresponding CUDA counterparts. Then, building on this, more advanced topics are introduced. These enable one to write efficient HIP applications, including asynchronous execution with streams, utilizing performance tools and how to write efficient kernels. Finally multi-GPU programming will be discussed.
After the course, the participants will be able to write simple GPU programs, know how to analyse the performance of their GPU programs, and understand how to combine GPUs with MPI.
No prior knowledge on GPU programming or HIP/CUDA is required, but the participants are assumed to have a working knowledge of the C++ (or C) programming language and to be familiar with MPI.

The specialists from the University of Tartu create unified and secure access to Europe's supercomputers
The EuroHPC Joint Undertaking integrates supercomputers, quantum computing, and interconnected data infrastructure across Europe with the help of specialists from the University of Tartu High Performance Computing Center to facilitate access to computational power for European scientists and businesses.
Under the leadership of EuroHPC, nine state-of-the-art supercomputers are operating in various locations across Europe, with six quantum computers soon to be added. To simplify access to these machines, a tender was organised to create the EuroHPC Federation Platform. The competition was won by a consortium, in which the University of Tartu will contribute to enhancing Europe’s high-performance computing ecosystem and support the development of European science, education, and business.
“Supercomputers and high-performance computing help process large amounts of data quickly. This is essential in research and development to advance artificial intelligence and machine learning and to perform complex simulations,” said Ivar Koppel, Head of the High Performance Computing Centre at the University of Tartu. According to him, a drawback of the European supercomputing ecosystem is that each supercomputer has a unique architecture, and users are managed differently across computing centres. “Thanks to the EuroHPC Federation Platform, a connection will be created between European supercomputers, artificial intelligence systems, quantum computing, and data infrastructure. This will make high-performance computing easier and improve access to cutting-edge technology for European countries,” explained Koppel.
The Waldur software, developed at the University of Tartu, will be used on the Federation Platform to share computing resources. Therefore, the university plays a vital role in ensuring better accessibility to EuroHPC computing systems and, as a result, the broader adoption of these systems. The platform’s clients will include the European scientific community, businesses, and public sector institutions. In the future, there are plans to integrate artificial intelligence factories being built in Europe with the same platform.
The consortium developing the EuroHPC Federated Platform is led by CSC – IT Center for Science (Finland). It includes the University of Tartu, the pan-European research network GÉANT, Ghent University (Belgium), the University of Ostrava (Czech Republic), and NORDUnet. The project’s cost is 20 million euros, and it is supported by the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) program. The platform’s development began in January of this year and will last five years.

The EuroHPC Summit is an annual event gathering key European HPC and quantum computing stakeholders from providers to scientific and industrial users, to policy makers.

Webinar: Harnessing HPC and AI - Open Source Innovations and Real-World Applications
LUMI HPE Centre of Excellence (HPE CoE), AMD and the LUMI User Support Team will conduct an intensive five-day course designed to elevate your understanding and skills in utilizing the LUMI supercomputer. This course is divided into two parts: a two-day introductory segment followed by a three-day advanced workshop. Participants have the option to register for the three-day advanced workshop independently if they are already familiar with the introductory material.

LUMI Intro Course
Join the online “LUMI Intro Course” that serves as an introduction to the LUMI supercomputer architecture and setup. The course will take place on 10.-11.12.2024.
This course is aimed at anyone who wants to know how to perform very large computing tasks, specifically if you intend to use the LUMI supercomputer in the future.
In this training you will:
- connect to LUMI and transfer data from and to the cluster
- understand LUMI’s hardware and effectively compile software on it

FFPlus project funds European SMEs and start-ups wanting to use supercomputers
The computational methods encompass a large range of possibilities: modelling and simulation, data analytics, machine learning, and AI – all options empowering SMEs through enhanced innovation and competitiveness.
The benefits of using HPC include:
- saving time for product/service development and decrease time to market
- saving costs by optimising data processing tasks
- Increased efficiency and higher levels of innovation
- more specialised, tailor-made products and services
- greater competitiveness
- gaining new knowledge and know-how by R&D experts
During the project’s lifetime (2024-2028), SMEs and start-ups will be supported through six open calls to fund business experiments and innovation studies.
Business experiments will address the uptake of HPC by SMEs in order to solve specific business challenges of SMEs that have had no prior use of, or experience with, HPC services.
Innovation studies, in contrast, will support European SMEs and start-ups already active in the field of generative AI technology, which lack the necessary computational resources to scale up.

POP3 Profiling and Optimisation Tools Workshop
This course, organised in collaboration with POP Centre of Excellence, NCC Austria, NCC Czechia, NCC Hungary, NCC Poland, NCC Slovakia and NCC Slovenia, brings together expertise and resources from various organisations to support developing and optimising high-performance computing applications.
The first day of the workshop introduces participants to the POP Centre of Excellence, detailing its services, methodology, and tools for performance assessments and second-level services. On the second day, the focus shifts to getting started with open-source multi-platform tools for analysing MPI+OpenMP application executions on CPU architectures. The third day delves into more advanced usage, including analysing application executions on combined CPU and GPU architectures. During this hands-on workshop, participants will be introduced to the use of Paraver/Extrae and Scalasca/Score-P/CUBE toolsets for CPUs and GPUs.
Attendees will learn how to use the parallel performance analysis tools of the Performance Optimisation and Productivity (POP) CoE and a corresponding methodology for applying those tools to assess execution performance and scaling efficiency of their own parallel application codes in a portable fashion.

After completing the course, you will be able to work efficiently on both the CPU (LUMI-C) and the GPU partition (LUMI-G).

This 3-day Nextflow course by ELIXIR Estonia, in collaboration with the University of Tartu HPC Center, comprehensively introduces the powerful workflow language. Nextflow is renowned for its robust, scalable, and reproducible methods of running computational pipelines. Through efficient, interactive lessons, participants will gain a solid understanding of Nextflow technology, from fundamental to advanced concepts.
The course ensures that participants receive frequent hands-on experience while minimising theoretical sessions. By the end of this course, participants are expected to possess the necessary proficiency to develop, use and deploy their own workflows using Nextflow. Additionally, participants will receive an introduction to nf-core pipelines, gaining insights into how these ready-to-use pipelines can be integrated into their workflows for enhanced bioinformatics analysis.
4th Baltic HPC and Cloud Conference in Riga on April 11-12, 2024
We invite you to join the conference for the Baltic Sea region to exchange ideas and discuss future collaboration models with NCCs, CoEs, EDIHs, and governmental representatives. We will have separate sessions dedicated to each of these topics, including Industry sessions with real-life examples from SMEs in using HPC, Quantum Computing with European perspective and main differences between QC and HPC. We will look into new developments in HPC and HPC training, as well as authentication possibilities to access HPC. This is an event for the Baltic countries to learn from the experience of the Nordic countries.
This conference will be especially relevant for different research communities that use HPC, including students, HPC experts, and industry.
The conference is organised by National HPC Competence Centres (NCCs) in Latvia (SuperS), Estonia, Lithuania, Sweden (ENCCS), Finland (CSC), and Denmark (DK-NCC) within the framework of the EuroCC 2 project.
